Chauncy Glover Chose Anchoring At A Young Age

Glover’s KCAL biography states he became “fascinated with news at the age of five when his father built his own mini ‘anchor desk’ for his newscasts that he would perform for his family every Sunday after church.”

Beginning with his theater, music, and broadcast journalism studies at Troy University in Alabama, he converted that enthusiasm into a career.

After graduation, he began working as a special projects and general assignment reporter at WTVM News Leader 9 in Columbus, Georgia.

Two years later, he relocated to CBS 47 and Fox 30 in Jacksonville, Florida. Then, he worked for Detroit’s WDIV before joining KTRK, where he received numerous accolades for his efforts.

After relocating to Houston in 2015, he joined ABC13 as the first Black male primary nightly anchor.

His creation of “The Chauncy Glover Project,” a mentoring program designed to help transform “inner-city teenage boys into upstanding and accomplished gentlemen,” according to its website, is one of his achievements outside of his journalism profession.

Among other skills, the curriculum emphasizes financial responsibility, public speaking, etiquette, college readiness, and mental health awareness.

Glover said on KCAL that the Chauncy Glover Project had mentored over 1,000 young men and sent over 350 boys of color to college.

Glover, who said that working in the news was his “calling,” lived up to the saying, “Where faith begins, fear stops.”
