Swedish basketball player Pelle Larsson, a projected second-round pick in the 2024 NBA draft, began playing basketball at age five under his father’s guidance. Born into a family of sports enthusiasts, Pelle is the youngest of two children of Christian and Frida Larsson.

His father, Christian, a former basketball player, played for the Swedish national team before retiring and working at a business consulting firm. So Larsson’s early connection with basketball is no surprise.

Having played at a local basketball team, Skuru IK, he moved and joined BC Lulea at 16. He also played for RIG Luela (2019-20) in the Swedish Basketball League, where he was named the League’s Star of The Year. Afterward, he moved to the United States and signed with the University of Utah for collegiate basketball.

Now, a shooting guard for the Arizona Wildcats at the University of Arizona, Larsson is already gaining prying eyes into his personal life- his family and siblings. Scroll down for details.

Pelle Larsson’s Parents, Christian, And Frida Are His Basketball Inspiration

Larsson, born on February 23, 2001, is a native of Nacka, Sweden, and is the second of two sons of Christian Larsson and Frida Runnquist Larsson. Pelle’s father, Christian (b. September 13, 1970), played professional basketball in Sweden and even represented the Swedish national team in the EuroBasket in the 1995-96 season.

Despite not having a long career in basketball, the affection for athletics in the Larsson family impacted Pelle’s approach to basketball. His father and brother helped him train and foster competitiveness, which became his driving force to perfection.

Speaking with The Daily Utah Chronicle, he said:

“My dad is who got me started playing basketball. I also competed with my brother my whole childhood. I don’t know how much he competed with me, but I was always trying to beat him, so that was a big part of my life when I was younger.”

On the other, Larsson’s mother instilled ethics and morals in him while being his emotional supporter.

What Does Pelle’s Father And Mother Do?

After retiring from basketball, Pelle’s dad, Christian, started his career in a business consulting firm. He is a 1997 graduate of Stockholm University with a degree in HR Management & Organisation. Per his LinkedIn profile, Mr. Larsson is a senior director at Stockholm-based business management consultant, BTS (2019- present).

In addition, he is a CEO and partner/senior management Consultant at Samsari. His past experiences include senior Management Consultant at Novare Act, managing director at NGA Human Resources, and HRIS solution manager at ERICSSON Business Consulting.

While Pelle Larsson’s father went from basketball to a business firm, his mother, Frida Runnquist Larsson, has worked as a nurse at Nacka Hospital since 2009. She obtained a nursing degree from Karolinska Institutet.

According to her LinkedIn profile, she is also a teacher at her alma mater, Konstfack – University of Arts, Crafts and Design. From there, she completed her master’s in Glass and Ceramics.

There is no denying that Larsson’s parents inspired him to follow his passion for basketball while providing him with every requirement to take a better leap.

The 23-year-old basketball player’s father is an avid user of Instagram and goes by the IG handle @christian_i_skuru. He is also active on Facebook (@christian.larsson.5891). As for Pelle’s mother, she appears to be a private person. She does not use Instagram but is available on Facebook and LinkedIn.

Pelle grew up with his older brother, Vilgot Larsson, who is three years his senior. Born June 29, 1998, in Nacka, Sweden, he is 26 years old as of 2024. The Larsson brothers shared their love for basketball and competed with each other while growing up.

Vilgot, a former basketball player, played collegiate basketball at the Hill College (2017-18) and the University of Maine (2018-21). As a freshman at Hill College, he averaged 6.5 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 1.5 assists.

Then, after transferring to Maine, he played for the Maine Black Bears; he appeared in 32 games as a sophomore (2018-19) and averaged 6.7 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 1.3 assists. His junior year concluded with .6.3 points per game from 25 games. The 6 feet 8 inches (2.03 m) tall power forward didn’t play in his senior year.

Vilgot started off his career similar to Pelle in the suburbs of Nacka in local clubs, and sought collegiate basketball. Also, he gained fame as an international basketball player in the 2017 under 20 FIBA European Championship, 2016 Under 18, 2015 Under 18, and 2014 Under 16.

After the Swedish National Team appearance, basketball coach Barron said, “Vilgot brings a wealth of international experience to our team from his time with the Swedish National Team. His length and speed have made him one of Sweden’s top defensive players and his guard skills and three-point shooting range make him tough to match up with.”

However, he didn’t turn to professional route to basketball after college graduation.

According to Vilgot’s LinkedIn profile, he works as an environmental consultant at Geosyntec Consultants (March 2022- present). Formerly, he was a part-time researcher at Novare Pay Consulting (December 2021- March 2022). He has a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Maine.

He has social profiles in Instagram and Facebook, but is not much active on those platforms.

Pelle Larsson’s Stats, NBA Draft 2024, And More

In 2020, Pelle moved to the United States of America to play for the Utah Utes men’s basketball team. As a freshman (the 2020-21 season), he averaged 8.2 points per game with 3.2 rebounds and 2.8 assists.

After a season, he underwent transfer portal and enrolled at the University of Arizona. With the Arizona Wildcats, he appeared in 37 games, averaging 7.2 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 1.8 assists, per game in the 2021-22 season.

His junior year (2022-23) saw him 9.9 points, 4.3 rebounds and shot 47.2% overall from the floor.

In his senior year, Pelle announced to enter the 2023 NBA draft, but returned to play at Arizona (in 2023-24). That season, he improved his college stats to 12.8 points per game, and totaled 1,277 points in his four-season journey.

The Sweden native declared for the 2024 NBA draft forgoing his remaining college eligibility, and is a projected second-round pick. In the NBA draft combine, the 6 feet 6 inches (1.98 m) tall player went on to score 12 points and added three boards in 19 minutes of action.

His height without shoes is 6 feet 5.25 inches (1.96 m), and weighs around 215 lbs (98 kg). Pelle’s athletic frame with a wingspan of 6 feet 7 inches (2.01 m), and max vertical jump of 38 inches, give him agility and vertical reach, provide him with a knack for slipping the screen for layup.
