Julian Champagnie And His Twin Brother, Are Both In The NBA: More On His Basketball Enthusiast Family And Relationship

NBA

Julian Champagnie comes from a family of athletes. His father played professional football, while his twin brother, Justin, is busy making his name in the NBA.

Champagnie, a 23-year-old American professional basketball player for the San Antonio Spurs, played college basketball for the St. John’s Red Storm, twice earning all-conference honors in the Big East.

The 6’7″ Staten Island-born player signed a two-way contract with the Philadelphia 76ers, splitting time with their NBA G League affiliate, the Delaware Blue Coats. This came after he was undrafted in the 2022 NBA draft.

Julian had one of the best college careers and has great potential on the biggest basketball stage. Moreover, his coming from a family full of professional athletes has created a lot of pressure for the young basketball prodigy.

Can he live up to his family’s sports legacy?

Julian Champagnie’s Parents Raised Two NBA Players in New York

Julian was born as a twin to his parents, Ranford and Christina Champagne, in New York. His father used to play soccer and train him and his brother in various sports.

His mother, Christina Champagne, is a second-grade school teacher in Brooklyn.

She has over two decades of teaching experience in the Catholic School System, having taught kindergarten early in her career. Christina received her degree from St. Francis College.

The mother of three has opened up about some of her personal preferences on the St. Peter Academy page. She says she loves pizza and iced coffee, and her hobby is exercising. Her favorite book is Where the Wild Things Are. Finally, her subject of teaching is reading.

On the other hand, his father participated in the 1996 national championship team while playing soccer at St. John’s in the middle of the 1990s.

From 2004 until 2014, he also served as Baruch College’s head men’s soccer coach. During his time at St. John’s, the Jamaican player contributed 15 assists and five goals.

The midfielder, who played for the Red Storm for three years, started 22 games as a rookie and helped the team win the 1995 Big East Tournament Championship.

After graduating from college, Ranford played for several professional and semi-professional clubs in the New York region. Furthermore, from 1998 to 2000, Champagnie played with the Westchester Flames in the Premier Development League, which is now the fourth division of the United Soccer League.

Academically, Champagnie earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing and was on the Dean’s List from 1995 to 1996.

Julian Champagnie’s Father Ranford’s Career as a Coach

Julian Cgampagne’s father, Ranford, played soccer before becoming a coach.

According to his LinkedIn profile, Ranford, Julain’s dad, is a soccer coach. Ranford Champagnie was the head coach at Baruch College, which won five CUNYAC titles and qualified for five NCAA Tournaments.

After settling up at Baruch College, Champagnie piloted the ship for 14 years and worked as an assistant for two of those seasons.

Following the 2003 campaign, Champagnie was appointed head coach. He was voted CUNYAC Coach of the Year, guiding the Bearcats to their first-ever CUNYAC Tournament Championship and subsequent trip to the NCAA Tournament in 2004.

Under Champagnie’s leadership, Baruch participated in five NCAA Tournaments and won the CUNYAC Championship in 2006, 2012, 2013, and 2014. In addition, the Bearcats won every conference game in the 2012 and 2013 seasons.

Similarly, Champagnie received the CUNYAC Coach of the Year title in 2006, 2009, and 2010, in addition to 2004. He also had a CUNYAC record of 68-32-13 at Baruch and 126 victories overall.

Champagnie, in his second season, scored four goals and eight assists to help the Johnnies win the 1996 NCAA Division I National Championship.

In addition, after missing the 1997 season due to injuries, he helped St. John’s win the 1998 Big East Tournament by starting 20 of 21 games in his senior year.

In addition to his coaching achievements at Baruch and playing career, Champagnie has been a supervisor and counselor at the Dave Masur Soccer Academy at St. John’s since 2002.

Julian Champagnie And His Brother Justin Started Early In Their Career

Justin Champagnie and his twin brother Julian Champagnie were inseparable for 17 years.

Justin is a small forward and shooting guard for the Washington Wizards of the National Basketball Association (NBA), on a two-way contract with the Capital City Go-Go of the NBA G League.

They played in the same AAU program and went to high school together, developing into excellent basketball recruits. Since it was so difficult to distinguish the talented wings from Brooklyn, they were all called “twins.”

After attending prep school for a year, the bunk-bed buddies were supposed to advance together. Perhaps it was like becoming college stars twins like Brook and Robin Lopez or Cody and Caleb Martin.

That everything changed one day. Pittsburgh wanted Justin. However, Julian wasn’t prepared for college. “I was upset, only because we had a plan to go post-grad and go somewhere together,” the 6-foot-7 Julian said.

That choice might have been the best for either party when all is said and done. Justin was in Pittsburgh, and Julian was at home for St. John’s, where his father, Ranford, was a soccer great. They both had successful freshman seasons.

The term “twin” was no longer used for them. They were now crucial parts of their unique rebuilding programs and no longer grouped.

Julian still intended to pursue a post-graduation year after Justin committed to Pittsburgh. However, St. John’s later hired assistant coach Van Macon as part of its new coaching team.

The Red Storm immediately demanded Julian, whom Macon had known since becoming a Bishop Loughlin sophomore. By that time, he had lost interest in playing with his sibling.
