Garrett Nussmeier’s Parents Are Equally Invested In Football Like Him: Father Is A Former NFL Player

NFL

Garrett Nussmeier, a prospect for the 2025 NFL draft, is the son of former NFL player-turned-coach, Doug Nussmeier. One of three children of his parents, Nussmeier and his brother followed his father’s footsteps into football while his sister is a cheerleader at LSU.

The young football player plays as a quarterback for the LSU Tigers, having joined in 2021 out of Edward S. Marcus High School.

Nussmeier took inspiration from his dad and passionately trained and played football from a young age. No wonder, that he recorded 2,815 yards with 33 touchdowns and five interceptions as a high school senior.

Over offers from Texas, Texas A&M, Miami, and Georgia, he chose LSU (Louisiana State University), which is also alma mater of three-time Pro Bowl honoree, Justin Jefferson.

In 2024, Garrett entered the fourth season as a quarterback at the LSU Tigers. He led the team to 2023 Citrus Bowl, and 2024 ReliaQuest Bowl- he also became the MVP in the latter.

As Nussmeier longs for the NFL draft in the coming years, many anticipate that he may join his father, Doug, who is an NFL coach. Having played at the Saints, Broncos and Colts, his coaching journey began in 2001.

A veteran with more than two decades of coaching expertise, he has served in college football and NFL teams. From 2018 to 2022, he was a tight end/quarterback coach at the Dallas Cowboys and has coached players like CeeDee Lamb.

Now, Mr. Nussmeier is a quarterback coach at Philadelphia Eagles, where rosters include Saquon Barkley, Jalen Hurts, Kenny Pickett, Cooper DeJean, and A.J. Brown.

The young quarterback Nussmeier was born and raised by his parents, Doug and Kristi. Garrett’s father, Doug, is a well-known football coach and former player.

Likewise, Doug has served as an offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for various college football and NFL teams. He played professionally as a quarterback in the NFL and Canadian Football League (CFL).

In addition, Dough was selected by the New Orleans Saints in the fourth round of the 1994 NFL draft. He retired from playing with the CFL’s BC Lions in 2000 and stayed with the organization as a quarterback.

Currently, as a quarterback coach, Doug is managing the quarterbacks of the NFL team Philadelphia Eagles.

On the other hand, Garrett’s mother, Christi Herbert, was a New Orleans Saints cheerleader. She also promotes LSU Tigers apparel via her Instagram handle.

Christi plays a significant role in supporting Garrett’s football career and often attends matches and events with her family to cheer him up.

Nussmeier Is Balancing His Playing Career And Dating Life

Garrett is in a relationship with his girlfriend, Ella Springfield. Both are attendants of the Lousiana State University, so they supposedly began dating after meeting in college.

While the football quarterback is not much open about his relationship on his social media, his girlfriend is the opposite.

On his Instagram (@garrettnussmeier), Nussmeier mostly posts about his games and practice/traning.
