The British actor Chiwetel Ejiofor was born to highly educated parents, Obiajulu Justina Ejiofor and Arinze Ejiofor. However, his father’s untimely demise left an impact on his upbringing, and the actor was raised by his single mother alongside his siblings.

In addition to the actor, the Ejiofor family includes another famous personality. His sister, Zain E. Asher, has also made a name for herself as a news anchor at CNN International.

Besides, the British Academy Film Award winner prefers to stay away from the limelight and has also distanced himself from social media. Despite having a successful career and being a famous personality, he has very few public appearances, leaving his fans wanting more.

In 2024, Ejiofor added another impressive credit to his acting portfolio after landing in Venom: The Last Dance, starring Tom Hardy as Venom. Chiwetel Ejiofor Is One Of Four Children Of His Parents: His Father Died In An Accident

The accomplished actor was born to his Nigerian parents, Obiajulu (Okaford), a pharmacist, and Arinze Ejiofor, a doctor in Forest Gate, London. He grew up alongside his three siblings, a brother, and two sisters.

Ejiofor’s parents, Obiajulu and Arinze, met and fell in love during the hard times of World War II. Their love endured and grew stronger as they survived the tragic ethnic cleansing, civil war, and famine.

However, a tragedy soon followed. Ejiofor was with his father in Nigeria for a family wedding and got in an accident. Their car collided with a truck in an expressway, leaving the British actor as the sole survivor.

At the young age of 11, the talented actor survived a tragic accident that left him with broken bones and in a coma. He still has a scar on his forehead from the accident. The physical scars from the incident heal with time, but the incident holds its impact on the actor mentally.

Reflecting on the impact of the accident, Ejiofor said, “When you lose a parent young, it has a profound effect on the way you view life. At an early age, you realize the value of some things and the preciousness of life itself, which is something most people acquire later on. Certain fears or neuroses you definitely carry.”

Following the tragedy, his mother stayed vital for her family and continued her journey as a single mother. Additionally, Obiajulu was a supportive parent to her children, motivating them to chase their dreams. His mother taught Shakespeare to Ejiofor when she discovered his love for acting at 13.
